pH reading Bluish-purple color?
This is a false pH reading do to high bromine. You need to remove your bromine floater and remove the cover to let as much sunlight as possible to get to the water. Bromine will only be used up by using the spa or UV rays. If your spa is inside you will need to drain out about half the water and refill with fresh water.
When testing for chlorine I get color for a few seconds then it turns clear or orange flask appear?
This is do to a really high chlorine level. You will need to remove any floaters you are using. This will allow the chlorine level to come down. Do not use until the Chlorine levels or at or below 3.0 ppm.
How do I lower my bromine levels?
You need to remove the floater and let sunlight get to the spa. or you can drain out part of the water and add new water.
When testing pH on my spa I get color for a few seconds then it turns clear?
This is do to a really high bromine or chlorine level.
pH in spa will not lower?
To get the pH down in the spa you need to add 1 ounces of pH Minus for every 100 gallons of water every 15 minutes with the spa running. Check the pH and add more is need to get the pH to 7.4. The harder your water is the more pH minus it will take to do the initial pH adjustment.
I adjusted pH in my spa and the next day it is high again?
When you first fill a spa it takes about one week of adjusting the pH each day before the pH becomes stabilized.
What is the chart on pH Minus for?
This chart is used with the #3 solution that is in the 5-way test kit only.
What causes foam in a spa?
Foam is often the results of water imbalance, organic material, or the presence of growths. Keeping the pH between 7.2 and 7.6 along with shocking weekly can help to prevent this problem.
How long do I have to wait after adding algaecide before I can use pool or spa?
After the algaecide is add you should wait 15 to 20 minutes before going in.
What do I need to start up my spa?
When you first fill a spa you will need to test your water one after filling. Then adjust your pH using pH Minus to lower pH or pH Plus to raise pH. Then shock the spa with either Liquid Shock or Chlorinating Granules. Then if using bromine put in the floater with bromine tablets in it.
I have an Ozonator do I still need to use Chlorine and Bromine?
Yes, An ozonator introduces ozone into the water, destroying micro-organisms and contamination. The ozonator only works on low speed and, therefore, is introduced into the water at certain intervals. Ozone is very fleeting and only is effective on the water passing thought it (no residual effect). Once the ozonator is shut off, there is no continuing sanitation. Because of this, most manufacturers recommend the use of a backup sanitizer system, (such as bromine), to provide the sanitizer residual during the periods that the ozonator is not operating.
If I am using bromine do I need to use chlorine?
Yes, Using a spa, every day with two or more bathers makes it all most impossible to keep the bromine up. The bromine is very slow dissolving and with that, many bathers in the spa the bromine will be used up rapidly. The purpose of using bromine in a spa is that chlorine will not hold up to heat. The bromine dose not easily break down at 100ºF. The chlorine is fast dissolving but will not hold up to the heat. Therefore, when you use the bromine and chlorine together you can keep your spa clean and sanitized. The use of chlorine after using the spa you can “shock” the water and destroy micro-organisms and contamination that entered into the spa when it was used, which then lets the bromine build back up.
I was told not to uses chlorine with bromine?
This is not true the active ingredients for brominating tablets are (bromine and chlorine). With most being about 39.2% available bromine and 44.4% available chlorine. What you do not want to uses is any chlorine tablets or any chlorine with calcium hypochlorite in the active ingredients.
